Introduction to the Series.

By Lisa, Collie Dog Owners Founder.

When looking for collie information here at [tag]CollieDogOwners.com[/tag], some people tend to overlook the fact that collies are not only part of a breed, but they have a rich history that makes them a part of many different facets of [tag]canine[/tag] life.  On an individual level, collies have a wide variety of personalities – some are happy go lucky, some are serious, some are comedians, and some are couch potatoes.   However, each of these dogs have a collective sense of common traits known as a specific “breed” – The [tag]Rough and Smooth Collie[/tag] breed.  This particular breed belongs to a further classification of the Herding / Working group, which includes cousins such as the border collie and other sheepdogs.

I fully believe that if you want to understand the collie, you must first understand where they come from – their history, their scientific families, their ancestors, and their ultimate purpose on earth.  This series will take you through an introduction of the scientific classification of dogs, a further look into the idea behind groups, and finally a closer look into each group itself – culmulating with a visit into the herding group, where the Rough & Smooth Collie belongs!  Two articles in this series will be posted each day and links to the series’ Table of Content will be updated.
